Way back in the early 70s Northern Lights first took the stage. At that time, original members, Ron Capone, Biff Coyne and Pat Kaufman were high school students from Flourtown and Erdenheim. They played their brand of classic rock covers in and around the neighborhood until the early 80s, joined along the way by other Springfield kids, Matt Pello, Joe Nines, Ken Fox and Blaise Brugger.
Most still live in or near the township and are still close friends. They all turned 60 in 2017 and to celebrate they got the idea to get the band back together. They have played a few private parties of the past few years when Donna DeMarco joined Joe Nines handling the lead singing duties. That led to a packed house at Halligan's Pub for a February performance.
Time has slowed them down a little so they aren't doing dates every weekend like they did back in the day, but there are talks about some community street fairs and maybe a gig down the shore this summer. That might be enough, but they still get a kick out of practice.
In the 70s they would practice on Gordon Road and hang out at Hazel's in Erdenheim. Today, you might hear them warming up on Mill Rd. as you take a Spring walk through the neighborhood in Flourtown.
